Blake Taneff Qualifies for State Meet

The Eagles competed at the regional meet on May 27th and 29th.  Blake Taneff was the lone athlete to qualify to the state meet, tying a school record 9:35 in the 3200 meters to take 3rd place.  One of only 3 underclassmen to make the Division I meet as a sophomore in the 3200, Blake will run Saturday at 6:10 p.m.  He will be running against the likes of OSU recruits Donny Roys (Medina) and Julian Meyer (Ravenna), returning state champion and fellow sophomore Zach Wills (Mason), and fellow Central Ohio standouts Yoshi Shimizu (Hilliard Davidson) and Jeff Hannaford (Westerville North).   Blake will be looking to place in the top 8 and set a school record on Saturday.  Any athlete that is interested in watching Blake run should contact Coach Olinger to make plans on attending with the team!

Regional Schedule and Track Banquet

Track Banquet is this Thursday May 28th at 6:30 in the high school cafeteria.  All families are asked to bring one large pizza for dinner.  See you Thursday!

Eagles 5th at Districts

This past week, the Eagles competed in the Division I Central District Meet.  Competing against 17 other teams from Central Ohio, the Eagles improved on the 2008 14th place finish (16 points) with a 2009 5th place finish (48.5 points).  In addition to their outstanding team performance, 5 events qualified for the regional meet to be held at Pickerington North High School on Wednesday May 27th and Friday May 29th.  The team results from the District Meet are as follows:

District Championships and other reminders...

District Championships will be held this week at Dublin Coffman High School.  The field event finals will be held Tuesday at 3:45, running event prelims and semifinals on Wednesday at 3:45, and Final Running events will be held Saturday starting at 12:00 noon.  The top 4 in each event will advance to the Regional meet on Wednesday and Friday of next week at 4:00 p.m.  A few reminders for this week:

1.  Any athlete competing in the district meet will be dismissed early from school on the day of their competition.  Early dismissal is 1:00.  Bus leaves at 1:30 on Tuesday and Wednesday.

2.  Any running athlete or relay team that makes finals will compete on Saturday.  Bus leaves at 10:00 a.m.

3.  Practice times are as follows this week:
a.  Monday - 2:45
b.  Tuesday - 2:45 (field event athletes will be competing at Dublin Coffman)
c.  Wednesday - (running prelims and semifinals)
d.  Thursday - 2:45
e.  Friday - 2:45
f.   Saturday - Running Finals

4.  Spring Track Awards Night will be on Thursday May 28th at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.  All families are asked to bring a large pizza as we will eat dinner before presenting awards. 

5.  Any athlete that is finished with his season is required to turn in his uniform to Coach Olinger after school at practice sometime this week.  Please note the importance of turning in these uniforms as they are new and will be used for future seasons.  

OCC - 3rd Place

The Eagles wrapped up a successful OCC season on Saturday finishing 3rd out of the 7 team Capital Division.  This is a two spot improvement from last season, as the Eagles finished 5th out of 6 teams in 2008.  The final team standings were as follows:

  • First team All-OCC honors went to Blake Taneff as he was the winner of the 3200 in 10:05.
  • Second team All-OCC honors went to Michael Burton in the 110 hurdles (15.1), Blake Taneff in the 1600 (4:29), and the 4x200 relay team of Jordan Williams, Zach Galbreath, Taylor Primeau, and Ross Watkins (1:31.4).
  • Honorable Mention OCC honors went to Jordan Williams in the 400 (50.84), the 4x800 team of Nick Buck, Juvon Williams, Blake Taneff, and Drew Windle (8:25), and Zach Galbreath in the pole vault (12'6'').

OCC Championships and District Championships

Championship season is upon us and the New Albany Boy's Track team will be competing at the OCC Capital Division Championships on Thursday May 14th and Saturday May 16th.  The seven teams in the Capital Division are New Albany, Big Walnut, Watkins Memorial, Delaware Hayes, Mount Vernon, Franklin Heights, and Olentangy Orange.  As the Eagles compete for their first ever OCC Championship, please note that the following events will take place on the following days.  Also please note that the bus will leave at 3:00 on Thursday, a time TBD on Saturday, and OCC Roster will be distributed at practice on Wednesday.

Eagles Win Eagle Disc! Perform well at Jesse Owens.

On Tuesday evening, New Albany defeated Big Walnut in the first annual "Eagle Disc" by a score of 80-57. Congratulations fellas for your hard work and a great performance. Leading New Albany versus Big Walnut were the following individuals and relay teams.
  • 3200 Relay - Buck, J. Williams, Taneff, Windle - 1st place
  • 100 - Jordan Williams - 1st place
  • 1600 meters - Blake Taneff - 1st place
  • 400 meters - Jordan Williams - 1st place
  • 300 hurdles - Michael Burton - 1st place
  • 800 meters - Juvon Williams - 1st place
  • 3200 meters - Blake Taneff - 1st place
  • 1600 Relay - Juvon Williams, Nick Buck, Drew Windle, Ryan Priddy - 1st place
In addition, the Eagles had a good showing at the Jesse Owens High School Classic at Ohio State this past weekend. Finishing 17th out of 47 teams with a total of 15 points, individuals and relays scoring for New Albany were:
  • Long Jump - Zack Galbreath - 4th place - 22' 1.25'' (new school record)
  • 3200 meters - Blake Taneff - 4th place - 9:37 (2nd best in Central Ohio this season)
  • 4x800 Relay - Nick Buck, Blake Taneff, Juvon Williams, Drew Windle - 7th place - 8:26 (new school record)
  • 110 meter hurdles - Michael Burton - 7th place - 15.52 (against the wind)
  • 400 meters - Jordan Williams - 8th place - 53.72
